Musician, producer, and open mic host based on Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi. Multi-instrumentalist rooted in Bluegrass, Folk, and Blues — now exploring the frontier where tradition meets synthesis.
Host of Lex White's Love of Mysteries podcast, exploring esoteric history, sacred traditions, and the unexplained.
Open mic nights every Wednesday at ʻAwa Hale, Kapaʻa and every Friday at Hale Līhuʻe on Rice Street — 7 to 10 PM.
All music released under Creative Commons BY-NC. Music is meant to move through the world — take it, share it, let it find whoever it needs to find. Just ask before using it commercially.
Catch it wherever you listen to podcasts, or stream straight from here. I put out new episodes when the material demands it — no schedule, just whatever rabbit hole I've gone down most recently.

Every show is free and open to anyone who wants to play or listen. It doesn't matter if you've been at it for forty years or forty days — bring whatever you've got. I believe in the open door. Questions? lex [at] lexwhite [dot] net
I was born in Grass Valley, California — right in the heart of West Coast Bluegrass country — to a family that took music seriously. My father Earle played banjo and made sure I was at every jam and festival he could drag me to.
As a teenager I got caught up in Flamenco and Classical guitar for a while — the discipline of it appealed to me — but I eventually came back around to my roots in Blues, Folk, and Bluegrass. You see, you can run from where you come from, but the music of your childhood has a way of finding you again.
At 25 I was in a near-fatal commercial trucking accident. That kind of thing has a clarifying effect. It made very clear to me what actually mattered, and music was at the top of that list. I've been dedicated to it in earnest ever since.
Now I'm living on Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi — making records, hosting open mics, running a community radio show, and following whatever musical threads seem most alive at any given moment.
I've been playing and studying music my whole life, and I've been teaching it for most of that time. I teach both in person on Kauaʻi and online — distance hasn't stopped anyone yet.
What I teach:
- guitar
- mandolin
- banjo
- ukulele
- bass
- music theory
Whether you're just getting your hands on an instrument for the first time or you've been at it for years and hit a wall — I can meet you where you are. My approach is practical and rooted in the tradition, but I'm not dogmatic about it. Music theory is something I find genuinely fascinating, and I'll share that enthusiasm with anyone who wants it.
Lessons run around $100/hour. Reach out and we'll figure out what makes sense for your situation.

I'm available for a wide range of engagements. If you've got something in mind that isn't on this list, ask anyway — I'm open to just about anything that sounds interesting.
- live musical performances
- private events
- weddings
- hosting & MC work
- audio recording & production
- audiobook production & direction
Rates vary by project and generally run around $100/hour as a starting point. I'm based on Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi, which makes spontaneous mainland travel a little impractical — but I'm actively looking for national and international opportunities that justify the trip. If travel expenses are covered, I'll go anywhere.
Get in touch and let's talk about what you've got going.
